Talk Radio

While in college, I worked as a maid to pay my way through. Though most of the homes were empty of people when we were there cleaning, there were some people who were home. My first exposure to talk radio came as a result of this job. I was assigned to clean the kitchen and the radio was on each week when we arrived. I worked during the day cleaning peoples homes and took my classes at night. In one particular house we cleaned the couple was retired and they were always home. I would clean the kitchen and listen to talk radio. I honestly didn’t have much choice in the matter.

I don’t really listen to talk radio any longer, but I do keep up with what is going on in my world. I do know that this is quite common with younger people, and I know that most of them wake up to reality soon enough. I think it’s a shame that it took this to make me realize that there was more to the world than just my interests. Perhaps the younger folks just aren’t ready yet. I often watch programs that might be the television equivalent to talk radio, and I do a lot of reading online when I have the time. Perhaps this is why so many people who are involved in politics are of the older generation. Don’t worry, they will be.

Though I never gave much thought to talk radio, I found that I had no idea what I was missing. This is not something I had ever paid any attention to, because I only used my radio to listen to music. I thought of talk radio as something that older people liked, but saw no reason to give it a try myself. What I didn’t realize was that there would be many things in life that I might not know I liked until I gave it a chance, and this was one of those things. I realized I had been limiting my life by preconceived notions that were not really true.

What I found was that I actually started to enjoy what I was hearing. I was never into politics and other worldly issues, and this is something that is true for most young people. I was surprised to find that I had stronger opinions than I realized, and I found what I was hearing on talk radio to be very intriguing. I would find that I stopped working because I was listening so intently, and this made me think I had been missing out on what was going on in the world around me. Had this radio not been tuned to talk radio when I was there it may have taken years longer for me to open my eyes to my world.
